Athletic Club begin full medical evaluations with IMQ

The first-team players will take tests in Lezama and IMQ Zorrozaurre’s Sports Medicine Unit throughout today and tomorrow

On Wednesday morning, Athletic Club’s first-team footballers took full pre-season medical evaluations. The tests were carried out in the IMQ Zorrozaurre’s Sports Medicine Unit and the Lezama training complex. Throughout Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, the rest of the footballers will be evaluated.

The tests conducted during the physical examination will include: blood analysis, a weight assessment, body-fat ratio exam, height measurements; cardiac evaluation and lung capacity, lactate threshold test to measure endurance, an electrocardiogram, isokinetic evaluation to measure muscle strength and a biomechanical podiatry study.

The Club’s medical staff, headed by Drs Lekue and Angulo, will oversee the medicals alongside IMQ’s professionals and specialists. IMQ, lead by Dr Pablo Aranda, has been Athletic Club’s official medical provider since the 1998-99 season.

As opposed to previous years, this year’s evaluations have been organised differently due to the pandemic. The tests will be divided between IMQ’s Zorrozaurre Sports Medicine Unit and Lezama in order to avoid overcrowding.
