A year ago today, Aritz Aduriz scored his last goal as a red-and-white player at the beginning of LaLiga 2019-20
On 16 August 2019 at 9:00 pm, San Mamés welcomed the opening fixture of LaLiga 2019-20 with an Athletic Club v FC Barcelona. On that magical evening, Athletic started the season with a win (after defeating Valverde’s lads 1-0) in which Aduriz scored what would be his last goal.
That Friday in August, more than 47, 000 people witnesed one of the most magical evenings of the season at La Catedral. One could feel the excitement in the atmosphere, a new season was kicking off. Aduriz came on the pitch to substitute Williams on 87 minutes and a minute later he make it 1-0 thanks to a stunning volley, after a cross from Capa. The supporters at San Mamés roared lauder than ever, witnesses of one of the best goals of the season, Aduriz had just made them live an unforgettable moment. By then, the striker had already announced that was going to be his last season, what nobody knew is that he had just scored his last goal as a red-and-white footballer.
