Athletic Club tripled its social media interactions

The club’s official accounts had the biggest percentage increase in growth amongst LaLiga clubs in 2019-20

Athletic Club’s official Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts saw the greatest percentage increase in growth across the 20 LaLiga teams last season. The figures, shared by Blinkfire Analytics -the company that manages the tool with which LaLiga analyses the digital performances of the competition’s clubs-, show a notable increase for the club -which tripled its records- in this regard throughout the 2019-20 season.

Athletic Club saw a 242% rise in its total figure for engagement (interactions) compared to last season, going from just over six million interactions in 2018-19 increasing to over 21 million in 2019-20.

The red-and-white club topped the rankings ahead of promoted sides Granada CF and RCD Mallorca, who had respective increases of 216% and 146% compared to their figures from the previous campaign.

In terms of the percentage increase for new followers (the rankings also account for Youtube), Athletic Club finished 6th amongst LaLiga clubs, with a 55% growth compared to the previous season.

Athletic Club’s official accounts –Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Linkedin –recovered last season- with Weibo and TikTok also being launched this season have accumulated a total of 2,600,000 followers.


Women’s Instagram
The Athletic Club Women’s Instagram account also performed well, finishing the season in fifth place in terms of social media interactions for Primera Iberdrola clubs. Despite not having their own Twitter or Facebook accounts, the lionesses were only bettered in engagements by FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, CD Tacón (now Real Madrid) and Real Betis. They accumulated a total of almost 850,000 interactions with followers to finish ahead of Valencia CF, Levante UD and Sevilla FC.
