Termination of Andoni López’s contract

He heads to UD Logroñés with a buy-back clause that Athletic Club can exercise at the end of the 2020-21 season

Athletic Club has come to an agreement with footballer Andoni López to terminate his contract, which was due to expire on June 30, 2021.

The left-back now heads to LaLiga Smartbank newcomers UD Logroñés, signing an agreement in which Athletic Club retains a buy-back clause that comes into effect at the end of the 2020-21 season.

Across two different stints, the defender from Barakaldo has spent 12 seasons at Athletic. Andoni joined the Under-10s in 2006-07, then he spent two seasons with Danok Bat before returning to Athletic as an Under-17.

He played 72 matches in two seasons for Bilbao Athletic and made his first-team debut against Girona under former coach Kuko Ziganda. It was his only game as a lion. Afterwards, he went out on loan twice, first to Almería and then to Elche, where he helped them win promotion to LaLiga in 2019-20.

Athletic Club would like to thank Andoni for his commitment, dedication and professionalism, and wishes all the best in his future endeavours both on and off the pitch. Thank you, Andoni!
