Derio becomes the first town council to join forces with the Foundation

This is a pioneering initiative that explores a cross-sector model of collaboration which more town councils can join in with

Derio Town Council has become the first council to join forces with the Athletic Club Foundation and get involved in an initiative to explore ways to collaborate across a number of sectors.

Esther Apraiz, the mayoress of Derio, Nekane Aiarza, deputy mayoress, and Aitor Elizegi and Juan Carlos Ercoreca, the presidents of Athletic Club and its Foundation, ratified the agreement in Ibaigane. Derio Town Council signed as a Benefactor and endorsed the Foundation’s commitment to a better society. The idea is that other town councils in Bizkaia can join this initiative, which includes agreements related to the common good and the Sustainable Development Goals targeted by the Foundation.

The purpose of this new initiative is to formalise, make official and expand these agreements between the Foundation and local councils, thereby allowing the Foundation to carry out its social, environmental, sporting and cultural activities in the municipalities that are members of the Athletic Club Foundation.

Specifically, within the wide range of activities and initiatives offered by the Foundation, Derio Town Council has shown an interest in the Thinking Football Film Festival, the Reading Clubs and Workshops, special Bertsoderbia events (improvised poetry in Basque), comprehensive training on Child Protection for coaches, families and children, Courses on Nutrition, Sports Psychology Training, Third Age Courses on ergonomics, and other benefits as a benefactor of the Foundation.

The Foundation and Derio Town Council are also looking at other avenues for cross-sector collaboration that could benefit third sector organisations in the Basque Country with which the Foundation works.
