Athletic Club launches the ‘San Mamés Declaration’ in the European Week of Sport

The Aterpe Programme establishes a document guaranteeing children’s right to be protected and receive correct treatment in the world of sport and leisure

Athletic Club, through its Aterpe Child Protection Programme, has created a document titled the “San Mamés Declaration”. The document is the result of a year’s worth of work and experience in this field.

The European Sports Week ends today, September 30, and Athletic Club used Ibaigane Palace as the stage to present the commitment and strength of this document together with some of the most important organisations working in child protection. UNICEF, EDUCO and The Spanish Federation for the Prevention of Child Abuse (FAPMI) endorsed the contents of this Declaration.

The aforementioned institutions, together with others such as Bilbao City Council’s Sports Ministry, The University of the Basque Country’s Faculty of Education, BBK Family, Basque Team and the Zeure Taldekoak Gara (We’re on your side) programme, have all joined the ‘San Mamés Declaration’ and applauded Athletic Club’s commitment to guaranteeing child protection through its Aterpe Programme,  the first programme of its kind among LaLiga clubs.

Present at the launch of the document in Ibaigane were: Isidro Elezgaray (UNICEF), Conchi Ballesteros (EDUCO), Belén Villa (FAPMI), Itsaso Erroteta (Bilbao City Council’s Minister of Sports), Mari Mar Boillos (Basque Country University Faculty of Education), Isabel Abella (Zeure Taldekoak Gara), Olatz Legarza (Basque Team) and, on behalf of the Athletic Club, Iñaki Alonso, head of the Aterpe Programme.
