Athletic Club never beaten at San Mamés by Cádiz in LaLiga
Cádiz CF have not earned a point in their league visits to San Mamés since 1988, Athletic are winning the head-to-head with 11 wins and two draws
Athletic Club return to San Mamés this Thursday at 19:00 (CET), playing Cádiz CF in LaLiga Matchday 4.
The previous LaLiga fixtures played out between the two teams in San Mamés bring good memories for Athletic fans, as Cádiz are yet to beat Athletic Club in a league match at San Mamés.
Out of the sides’ 13 league encounters, the lions have won 11 and drawn two. The Andalusian outfit have also failed to score in eight out of thirteen visits to Bilbao, while only scoring five times.
The first league fixture between both clubs took place in 1977/78 in San Mamés. That day, Athletic achieved their biggest ever win against the Andalusians with a 6-1 victory. Dani Ruiz-Bazán and Estanislao Argote scored braces, with Andoni Goikoetxea and Carlos Ruiz rounding off the scoreline.
We have to go back to 1987-88 to find the last time Cádiz picked up a point in The Cathedral, a nil-nil draw in the old San Mamés.
The last LaLiga duel was not for the faint-hearted. In 2005-06, Athletic came away with a 1-0 victory thanks to a retaken spot-kick put away by centre-mid Tiko in the 93rd minute.
