Athletic Club Women get a point and keep moving forward. The lionesses earned a good point against Valencia CF in their visit to the Antonio Puchades this Saturday. Erika Vazquez and Garazi Murua returned to the starting XI for the Primera Iberdrola fixture.
In the first half the connection between Erika and Lucía García troubled Valencia keeper Noela Gil early on, the shotstopper going full stretch to turn Valdezate’s shot away for a corner.
The first chance for Valencia CF came in the 30th minute from a corner, Cubedo testing Andrea de la Nava who turned it onto the crossbar and stopped the rebound on the line.
Minutes later, in the 40th minute, Erika scored with a powerful shot from outside the area. Athletic went into the break with the lead.
After the restart, the Valencians came out looking for the equaliser with renewed energy. Erika once again had an opportunity, this time firing straight at Noelia.
Yulema Corres was also back in action at the Antonio Puchades after overcoming injury. Valencia attacked Athletic’s area, but the lionesses’s defence stayed strong. That was until Carla Bautista took advantage of uncertainty at the back and slotted the ball underneath De la Naba in the 77th minute.
It was a close match and Athletic kept going until the final whistle but couldn’t find the winner. The lionesses remain unbeaten so far in the league. Next Thursday, Madrid CFF visit Lezama in order to face Angel Villacampa’s side at 18:00 CET.
