With the poster showing “Sold out”, the film “Vatreni” brought Thinking, Letrak eta Futbola 2020 to a close on Saturday at San Mamés. Through archival images and testimonies from players such as Robert Prosinečki, Slaven Bilić, Igor Štimac, Robert Jarni, Goran Vlaović or Mr. Miroslav Blažević, “Vatreni” tells us about the Croatian War of Independence and about the third place that the Croatian national team achieved in France. Their deed was a great joy to a population torn by war. In addition, it is the greatest achievement of a post-Yugoslav nation in soccer competitions.
Before the screening of “Vatreni”, the audience was able to enjoy a documentary that looked back at the legendary Argentine journalist Dante Panzeri, author of the cult football book, “Dinámica de lo impensado” (Dynamics of the Unthinkable).
The Athletic Club Foundation is already working on the next editions of the ‘Thinking Football’ and ‘Letters and Football’ festivals, with the hope that they can be held normally, once the pandemic is over.
