The Bizkaia Red Cross has launched its new-toy collection campaign “Their Rights at Stake”, which begins today, December 10, and will end on January 4. What is more, Athletic Club and Fundazioa (The Athletic Club Foundation) are joining the initiative.
Jon Vázquez Eguskiza, general director of the Foundation, Goyo Arbizu, board member, and the player ambassadors Andoni Goikoetxea and Eli Ibarra attended the presentation ceremony held at the BEC.
The objective is to collect 6,000 new, non-militaristic and gender-neutral toys this Christmas and distribute them among children belonging to struggling families. Recognising playing games as a fundamental childhood right and conveying the benefits it produces in little ones is also a vital part of the campaign.
The socioeconomic crisis generated by COVID-19 has only aggravated the situation of vulnerable families already served by the Red Cross in this area, in addition to a notably increasing number of recipients of this aid. Therefore, the toys collected will be delivered to the families that need them most.
In the last edition, thanks to the work of the Bizkaia Red Cross volunteers, 2,429 minors in Biscay received 6,444 new, gender-neutral and non-warlike toys. The volunteers collected the donations from clients of the collaborating establishments or companies, and then selected and organised the toys by age.
Athletic Club and Fundazioa among the collaborating entities
Athletic Club, through its Foundation, has once again joined the Bizkaia Red Cross toy campaign. All official club stores will function as a collection point for new toys.
Furthermore, all the profits obtained for each product purchased in an official store and destined for the Bizkaia Red Cross will be donated to the campaign by Athletic Club and the Foundation. All Athletic fans are encouraged to collaborate to ensure that no child is left without toys this Christmas.
All the collection points, timetables and campaign information can be consulted on the website www.cruzrojabizkaia.org/juguetes.
In addition to handing in toys at the authorised collection points, and in order to making participating easier for those people who, due to COVID-19, do not want to go to physical delivery points you can also help the campaign by making donations via a digital payment channel set up at www.cruzrojabizkaia.org/juguetes, by calling 900 104 971, by sending an SMS with the word JUGUETE to 38088 (€3), and via BIZUM to 38061 (minimum €5). All the proceeds will go entirely to the purchase of toys.
