Social media interaction skyrockets with the Supercopa

Athletic Club’s successes on the field have led to a recording-breaking January on social media, with 7.6 million interactions throughout last month

Athletic Club’s official accounts (Twitter, Facebook, InstagramYoutube, TikTok and Sina Weibo) registered a new all-time record in January in terms of interactions with followers on social media.

The figures, supplied by Blinkfire Analytics -who manage the tool with which LaLiga measures clubs’ digital performances-, show that Athletic Club racked up a total of 7,645,945 interactions in January, the club’s best month on record since data started to be collected in 2015.

What’s more, the Club’s official accounts added almost 100,000 new followers, drawing them closer to 2,800,000 followers, not including Athletic Club Women’s instagram account.

It was a month marked by victory in the Spanish Super Cup and Marcelino García Toral becoming the new first-team head-coach. Athletic Club kept fans up to date with almost 3,000 posts across the different social networks.

The interaction rate put the Club at fourth place in LaLiga’s rankings for total interactions in January, behind FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid.

The decision to focus on producing audiovisual content also paid off, with the number of video views across all official accounts rising to a club-record 19.9 million. This figure has put Athletic third in the January rankings for video views. Only FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are ahead, while Atlético de Madrid (12.6M), Sevilla FC (9.6M) and Real Sociedad (6.2M) follow behind.
