San Mamés turns red for Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day

Our stadium lights up in recognition of all those suffering from congenital heart defects

On Sunday, February 14, San Mamés’ façade turned red to support Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day. These heart defects typically occur in babies during the gestation period.

Many cases are mild and only need medical monitoring, but others require surgery and treatment, meaning some children can potentially spend a significant part of their early life in hospitals.

Athletic Club is helping to raise awareness surrounding the children impacted by this disorder as well as shedding light on the effect it has on their families.

Furthermore, we want to acknowledge the professionals who, through their hard work and dedication, provide care to all of these children.

In fact, thanks to advancements in pre-natal diagnosis, it has been possible to increase the life expectancy of these children to the point that more than 85% reach adulthood.
