Marcelino García Toral analysed Athletic’s 0-0 draw in Vigo
Athletic Club manager Marcelino García Toral admitted that a draw was a fair result after the Lions’ tightly-contested 0-0 stalemate with RC Celta in Vigo.
It’s the first time an Athletic match has ended without a goal since Marcelino took over in January, ending a 17-game streak.
“You couldn’t say it was an unfair result,” Marcelino said during his post match press conference. “Equality reigned supreme throughout the entire encounter. It was evenly matched for the whole 90 minutes.”
Despite failing to pick up any points at Balaídos, the head coach was happy with the character shown by his players.
He added: “We were always in control of the match, and we pressed high when we could.
“But they also forced us to sit deep and defend at times.
“Perhaps we were a bit imprecise in advantageous situations, but the team’s attitude was good.”
The Lions’ now have a six-day break before facing Basque rivals SD Eibar next Saturday.
Marcelino said: “We have time to rest and prepare well for Saturday’s match against Eibar.”
