Athletic Club sets off for the Copa final

The first-team squad were applauded by Lezama’s youngsters as they departed for Seville, where they’ll play FC Barcelona on Saturday

Athletic Club’s first-team squad set off for Seville on Thursday evening. They will arrive at the team hotel later on Thursday night and on Friday they will have a training session ahead of Saturday’s Copa final against FC Barcelona at La Cartuja (21:30 CEST).

The travelling party were seen off by players from the Club’s lower age groups, who stopped their training sessions to give Marcelino’s squad a guard of honour at Lezama.

Only two players were not on the team bus, Oier Zarraga and Peru Nolaskoain, as they are both recovering from recent operations. Director of sport, Rafa Alkorta, and the Club’s general director, Jon Berastegi, have joined the travelling party.

Athletic Club president, Aitor Elizegi, will join the squad later as on Thursday morning he was present in a meeting with the Spanish Football Federation regarding the Primera RFEF, the competition in which Bilbao Athletic will be take part in if they do not make get promoted to LaLiga Smartbank.

The players in the travelling squad are: Unai Simón, Jokin Ezkieta, Iago Herrerín, Jon Morcillo, Unai Nuñez, Iñigo Martínez, Yeray Álvarez, Mikel Vesga, Ibai Gómez, Unai López, Iñaki Williams, Iker Muniain, Álex Berenguer, Dani García, Iñigo Lekue, Oihan Sancet, Yuri Berchiche, Óscar de Marcos, Asier Villalibre, Ander Capa, Raúl García, Mikel Balenziaga, Iñigo Vicente and Unai Vencedor.
