Athletic Club Women sign striker Peke from Deportivo

Athletic Club Women have signed Ainize ‘Peke’ Barea from Deportivo Abanca. The 29-year-old striker will put pen to paper on a contract until June 30, 2025.

Peke, who spent eight seasons at CD Ugao earlier in her career, has been a key player for Deportivo Abanca over the last four seasons, scoring 84 goals in 106 games for the Galician outfit.

Deportivo were a revelation in the Primera Iberdrola two seasons ago but could not avoid relegation this year. Nonetheless, Peke managed to score 10 goals in 2020-21.

The player, who has been capped at international level for the Spanish national team, made her top-flight debut with Santa Teresa de Badajoz, where she spent two seasons. After that, she joined Deportivo Abanca, achieving immediate promotion after a magnificent campaign.
