Aduriz’s bicycle kick, a work of art

The Bilbao painter Iñaki García Ergüin has transferred the acrobatic finish to canvas. Aduriz unveiled the piece before kick-off and it will now be exhibited in the Athletic Club Museum

The Aritz Aduriz bicycle kick which helped beat FC Barcelona at San Mamés two years and five days ago is now a work of art. Not only in the minds of the fans who have watched the spectacular finish, but now also on canvas. The goal is the inspiration behind Bilbao-based painter Iñaki García Ergüin’s latest piece.

The painting was unveiled in the Presidential Box minutes before Saturday night’s match in the presence of the two artists, the one with the ball and the one with the brush. García Ergüin is an Honorary Member of Athletic Club and the man behind a large number of works related to our club, including the Centenary logo in 1998.

Athletic Club has chosen the same rival as back then, FC Barcelona, to exhibit the piece, which will be temporarily on display at the Athletic Club Museum. It is inspired by Juan Echeverría’s photograph of the strike, Aduriz’s 172nd and final goal as a Lion.
