Iñaki Williams breaks LaLiga record for consecutive matches

With 203 consecutive LaLiga appearances, the Athletic Club striker surpasses Larrañaga (202) and becomes the all-time record holder in the competition

Athletic Club forward Iñaki Williams played his 203rd LaLiga match in a row to become the player with most consecutive appearances in the competition’s history.

After taking part in Friday night’s clash with Deportivo Alavés at San Mamés, the striker overtook previous record-holder Juanan Larrañaga (202 appearances).

Williams’ long-standing streak started on April 20 2016 against Atlético de Madrid at San Mamés. He has not missed any of Athletic’s LaLiga fixtures since then: four appearances in 2015-16 plus all 38 league matches in every season from 2016-17 until 2020-21. The striker has been involved in all eight of Athletic’s league matches so far in the 21-22 campaign.
