Tribute to Unai Simón, Olympic silver medallist

In a special event at his official work offices, Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu hosted the Basque Team athletes who won medals or diplomas at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Among the attendees was Athletic Club goalkeeper Unai Simón, silver medallist with the Spanish national football team.

The event was held at Lehendakaritza (President’s Office). The athletes were joined by members of the Basque Team Foundation’s Board of Trustees, which includes Athletic Club, represented on the day by its president, Aitor Elizegi.

The Olympic athletes who attended the event and were recognised for their efforts included: Unai Simón (silver in football), Maialen Chorraut (silver in canoe slalom) Iñigo Peña (diploma in canoe sprint), Virginia Díaz (diploma in rowing), Ander Elosegi (diploma in canoe slalom), Iñigo Llopis (silver in swimming), Nahia Zudaire (diploma in swimming), Asier García (diploma in wheelchair basketball), David Mouriz (diploma in wheelchair basketball), Higinio Rivero (diploma in canoe sprint), Iker Sastre (diploma in table tennis), Rakel Mateo (diploma en triathlon) and Agurtzane Egiluz (diploma in wheelchair basketball).
