Garazi Murua signs one-year contract extension
The Athletic Club captain extends her contract until June 2023 and will spend a ninth season at Lezama
Athletic Club Women defender Garazi Murua has put pen to paper on a new one-year deal, keeping her at the Club until June 30, 2023.
The central defender and club captain has played a total of 178 official matches so far and next season – which will be her ninth at Athletic – she could reach 200 appearance as a Lioness.
Garazi, 27, came through the ranks at Bizkerre FT before arriving at Lezama in 2010/11. After five seasons as a youth player in addition to a year studying and playing in the USA at East Tennesse State University, the defender made her debut in March 2015. She made her permanent breakthrough to the first team in 2015/16, a season in which the Lionesses won a fifth league title.
The Getxo-born footballer is a consistent and strong presence in defence as well as a leader both on and off the pitch. She played a total of 26 matches in 2021/22, scoring two goals.
