San Mamés part of World Cup 2030 bid

San Mamés among 15 RFEF stadiums that could stage World Cup matches if Spain and Portugal’s bid is selected by FIFA

San Mamés could be a host stadium at the 2030 World Cup. The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) published a list of 15 stadiums that will host World Cup matches if Spain and Portugal’s ‘Iberian Bid’ is chosen at the FIFA Congress in two years’ time.

It would be the second time The Cathedral has staged fixtures at the international tournament. In 1982, Athletic’s home ground was the venue for some group stage fixtures between England, France, Czechoslovakia and Kuwait.

These are stadiums that make up the RFEF part of the bid:

  • Balaídos (Vigo)
  • Riazor (La Coruña)
  • El Molinón Enrique Castro ‘Quini’ (Gijón)
  • San Mamés (Bilbao)
