Guruzeta: "I want to keep helping the team"

Athletic Club striker Gorka Guruzeta said he is very pleased with his impact on the pitch after returning to Bilbao. The forward has played a role in three of the Lions' first four matches of the season and came off the bench to net two goals in the 0-4 win against Cadiz CF on Matchday 3.

Los Rojiblancos suffered a first loss of the season last weekend, falling to defeat against RCD Espanyol at San Mamés, but will be aiming to return to winning ways when they face Elche CF at the Martinez Valero this Sunday (16:15 CEST).

"I'm very happy. I have the confidence of the manager and my teammates," Guruzeta said at a pre-match press conference on Wednesday evening.

"Coming back to Athletic, I couldn't have imagined scoring two goals in the first four games. Scoring in LaLiga is something I hadn't done before and it's taken a weight off my shoulders. I want to keep helping the team and I'm looking forward to Sunday."

The forward insisted the side are approaching the clash in Elche with the same mindset as always, while also admitting he is willing to play in any position required if it benefits the team.

He said: "We have to prepare for the match against Elche in the same way we do every week, seeing where we can hurt them to get the three points. Despite the defeat against Espanyol, the team is doing well.

"The first day I had to play behind the striker, then after that as a centre-foward, but I'm comfortable in both positions. Wherever I play, I'll try to help the team as much as I can."

Grateful for the support received at San Mamés, Gorka is hopeful he can return the favour and bring some joy to the fans.

"When I took the pitch the other day, the ovation reminded me of when I made my debut," he added. "The Standing Section is phenomenal, it helps us a lot. Hopefully this year we'll get a lot of wins at San Mamés and repay all that love."
