Athletic Plaza returns for women's Basque Derby at San Mamés
San Mamés will once again have a Fan Zone, this time with many activities designed to promote the Basque language and equality
*All times are CET
Athletic Club has decided to organise a Fan Zone on the San Mamés concourse ahead of the Basque Derby between Athletic Club Women and Real Sociedad Women on Saturday 19 (20:00 CET*).
The activities will start at 12 noon and will end one hour before the match. The Fan Zone, known as Athletic Plaza, will also host the now customary Bertsoderbia (a Basque spoken word poetry contest) that both teams have held before the derby since 2012.
The venue will host different activities, where both young and old will be able to enjoy the Athleticzale experience. On this occasion, the initiative will be linked to two of the Club's major commitments for the next four years: encouraging the use of the Basque language and promoting equality.
On the left side of the concourse, where the main Euskaraldia and #Berdinaldia tents will be located, there will also be human table football, a five-a-side pitch, a dribbling track, eSports, three bouncy castles, face painting, a badge-making workshop, a prize roulette tent and two food trucks.
In the other area there will be music and food, with four food trucks and two bars. There will be giant puppets and zapantzarrak (a dancing performance in traditional Basque costumes), a children's performance from 13:00 to 14:00, Basque folk music with Bizkai Folklore Elkartea (14:00 to 15:00), Bertsoderbia (17:00 to 18:00) and street music (18:00 to 19:00).
Inside the stadium from 19:00 CET, both sets of fans will be able to watch a live set by Xabi Solano and Zigor DZ, members of famous Basque rock group Esne Beltza (Black Milk).
