Sestao River vs Athletic Club, a special match for Valverde and Aspiazu

Sestao River vs Athletic Club in the Copa will have a special meaning for current Athletic head coach Ernesto Valverde and assistant coach Jon Aspiazu. Both played for River in the 1985/86 season, back when the Biscay-based side was called Sestao Sport.

Then coached by Jabo Irureta, they shared a dressing room with several others who would later go on to coach at top clubs, such as: Jose Luis Mendilibar, Manix Mandiola, the brothers Andoni and Edorta Murua as well as Iñaki Ocenda.

We spoke to the coaches about their time at Las Llanas ahead of Athletic's Copa tie against Sestao River on December 20.
