A hamstring strain prevents the striker from playing against Celta, bringing an end to his LaLiga streak

Athletic Club forward Iñaki Williams has established a record of 251 consecutive LaLiga appearances The striker had not missed a LaLiga match since 20 April 2016, when he came on against Atlético Madrid at San Mamés.

Almost seven years later, his streak comes to an end, with the Ghana international unavailable for the match against RC Celta due to a hamstring strain. Williams' future availability will depend on his progress over the next few days.

The run saw Iñaki smash some long-standing records. On December 1 2019 in Bilbao, he broke the Athletic Club milestone of 132 matches on the bounce, previously held by goalkeeper Carmelo Cedrún.

Williams surpassed the LaLiga record on October 1 2021, beating Juan Antonio Larrañaga's mark of 202 matches in a row. Iñaki finally bowed out last week with a remarkable 251st consecutive league appearance coming against Real Madrid at The Cathedral.
