The gaffer says the draw at Vallecas was an accurate reflection of what happened on the pitch
Ernesto Valverde admitted that a point apiece was a fair reward after Athletic Club drew 0-0 with Rayo Vallecano at Vallecas on Sunday evening.
Both sides had opportunities to take all three points but neither could find a breakthrough. Athletic's best chance of the match came in the 92nd minute when Nico Williams hit the crossbar.
"It was a hard-fought match," Valverde said post-match. "It could have gone either way. Our intention was to go for everything today and we tried until the end."
He continued: "It's difficult to play here because Rayo are very dynamic and press hard. We were good in the duels and it was a question of being sharp in the final third.
"We had chances but we weren't clinical, neither were Rayo. I suppose the draw is a fair result. All that's left for us to do is move on."
