Dani García: “There are 12 points at stake and we're one off our aim”

The central midfielder said the side are eager to getting back to winning ways, starting with the match against RC Celta at San Mames on Saturday (16:15 CEST)

Athletic Club central midfielder Dani García stressed that the Lions still have time and available points to achieve European qualification, but he admitted Saturday's home match against RC Celta Vigo will be crucial.

The midfielder said Los Rojiblancos are "upset" and desperate to get back on track after suffering a recent dip in form.

"There is no time for excuses. There are 12 points still up for grabs and we're just one point off our aim. There are three vital matches this week. We have to turn things around quickly," he said at a press conference on Wednesday morning.

Dani is fully under no illusions about the importance of getting a win against Celta at San Mames this Saturday, saying a victory could completely change their entire outlook heading into the final three matches of the campaign.

He said: "A win at home will surely help us approach Thursday's match in Pamplona [against Osasuna] in a completely different way. Football is about momentum and we have to change ours."

The no.14 says the team will need to make the most of the home support on Saturday. He continued: "I'm sure they'll cheer us on all the way because there's a lot at stake.

"Lately we haven't given them the kind of happiness they hope for. So, we'll give it everything, for them and for us too. We want to lay down a marker."
