Death of former player José María Zuluaga
The midfielder made five appearances in three seasons with Athletic Club and was a cup winner in 1973
Former Athletic Club player José María Zuluaga died today in Bilbao at the age of 71. The midfielder wore the red and white shirt for three seasons with the first team and two with Bilbao Athletic. As a Lion, he was part of the team that lifted the 1973 Cup title and was recently honoured at San Mames on the 50th anniversary of that occasion. In addition, Zuluaga defended the colours of Barakaldo CF, Deportivo Alavés, Recreativo de Huelva, Lorca and Arenas.
Athletic Club wishes to convey its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the former player and informs that our players will wear black armbands in his memory during tomorrow's friendly against Manchester United at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
