The gaffer praised the overall quality on show as he spoke to the press after Monday night's thriller in Girona
Athletic head coach Ernesto Valverde said he was pleased with the Lions' performance after their 1-1 draw with Girona FC at Montilivi on Monday night.
Ukrainian forward Viktor Tsygankov put the hosts ahead before Iñaki Williams finished off a great counter to make sure the Lions picked up at least a point from a pulsating match.
"It was a fantastic match: strong, intense... very good," Ernesto Valverde said at his post-match press conference. "We had a lot at stake and we played with intensity, just like them. I'm happy with how the team played.
"A point always taste better if you're losing and then you draw rather than the other way around. We didn't win, but there are a lot of things from today that we have to keep doing. It was a good fight."
Valverde was particularly impressed with how Athletic reacted after going behind, applauding the players' spirit and the fact they fought to win until the final whistle.
He said: "We always want to compete until the end. Your attitude in a match count a lot. This match has to help us to take steps forward."
