Mikel Jauregizar makes his Athletic Club debut
The midfielder from Bermeo has become the fifth player to make his debut under Ernesto Valverde this season
Midfielder Mikel Jauregizar is the 639th Lion to make an official debut for Athletic Club. The Bermeo native got his first minutes in Wednesday's Copa match against CD Cayón, replacing Unai Gómez, also from Bermeo, in the 63rd minute.
Mikel is the fifth youngster to make a debut under Ernesto Valverde this campaign, following Imanol, Gómez, Beñat Prados and Unai Egiluz, who also made his debut in the Copa.
"It's a great moment, something you dream about all your life," The 20-year-old said after the Copa clash at El Sardinero. "Unforgettable. I feel very proud and happy for the opportunity and now I have to work to get more."
The midfielder came to Lezama in 2021. After playing for the Under-18s and CD Basconia, he is now in his first campaign with Bilbao Athletic, where he made his debut last season and has already made 14 appearances this year, quickly becoming one of the standout players in Carlos Gurpegui's squad.
