Athletic Club Official Statement
In compliance with RFEF's Regulatory Rules and Rules of Competition for First and Second Division Football for the 2023/2024 Season, the Athletic travelling party will spend the night in Granada while waiting for the Competition Tribunal to decide on a new date for the match
Athletic Club deeply mourns the death of a fan at the Nuevo Estadio de Los Cármenes during our LaLiga Matchday 16 fixture, which was suspended following mutual agreement between the referee and both clubs.
In accordance with the Regulations and Rules of Competition, the Athletic Club travelling party has returned to the team hotel in Granada to await the Professional CompetitionsTribunal's ruling regarding a date for resuming the match.
The regulations state that "because of the tight official calendar, in the cases in which, due to a regulatory cause, the referee suspends a match before it starts or finishes, the visiting team shall endeavour to remain in the location where the event is taking place so that, if the reason for the suspension ceases, the match can be played within the following twenty-four hours. In the event that the situation which prevented the match from taking place persists, it will be held on the first date on which the two contenders are available to play".
Athletic Club, reiterating our deepest condolences for the loss, understands that the fatal cause that led to the suspension has ceased and therefore the conditions are in place for the match to go ahead within the next 24 hours.
For this reason, Athletic Club has requested that Professional Competitions Tribunal allow the match to be resumed on Monday, 11 December 2023, in accordance with RFEF's Rules and Regulations for First and Second Division football competitions for the 2023/2024 season.
