Berenguer: "I've always said that I wanted to stay here"
Berenguer is delighted after sealing his continuity at Athletic Club until at least 2027 and guarantees that "I will work as hard as I can and give everything I have"
On the second day of the 2024/25 pre-season and after having renewed his contract until 2027, Álex Berenguer spoke happily to the media in Lezama.
"Both the Club and I wanted the same thing and, although a little late due to the holiday period, it has arrived," the winger said.
"Of course, winning titles and being a protagonist has an influence, but from the beginning I have always said that I wanted to stay here.
"I will work as hard as I can and give everything I have in order to play more. The more competition there is, the better it is for the team. When it has been my turn to respond, I have given the level that was expected.
"I am very happy with last season and now we are very excited to start this one with new incentives. It's true that there are going to be a lot more games than in previous years."
The player from Navarre was the hero of the Copa title, scoring the decisive penalty in the final, and recalled how he experienced it.
He said: "It was a great moment. You feel that you have the whole world on your shoulders to win a title after 40 years. I was super calm, I was 100% sure that I was going to score it, I knew where I was going to shoot it."
He also admitted that this season he wants to repeat the experience of lifting another trophy as a Zurigorri.
