Transfer of Asier Villalibre to Deportivo Alavés

The striker, Copa and Supercopa winner, ends his time at Athletic Club, which will be entitled to a percentage of any future transfer

Athletic Club have reached an agreement with Deportivo Alavés for the transfer of Asier Villalibre, who had a contract until 2025. As part of the deal, Athletic are entitled to a percentage of any future sales of the player.

The 26-year-old striker from Gernika ends his time at Athletic Club with 127 official games, 21 goals and the Copa and Supercopa titles under his arm.

His last-gasp goal against FC Barcelona in the 2021 Supercopa final, which forced extra time and helped Los Leones to a new title, will remain in the memory.

Villalibre also played a key role in Athletic's run to our 25th Copa with six goals in six games, making him the competition's top scorer alongside Abdon Prats and Anastasios Douvikas.

Having come up through the youth system at Lezama, Villalibre made his first-team debut in December 2016 under Ernesto Valverde. He then went out on loan in the second division to Lorca FC and Real Valladolid.

After returning and setting the all-time goals record for Bilbao Athletic with 23 strikes, Villalibre combined his progression in the first team with another loan spell in the Second Division, this time at Deportivo Alavés, where his goal in the promotion play-off took the team back to LaLiga.

Athletic Club wishes Asier Villaibre all the best of luck in his future professional career and is deeply grateful for his commitment and dedication in defending the Club's interests during all these years.
