Athletic Genuine to play tournament in USA

Athletic Genuine is one of the 12 teams participating in the first edition of the Genuine World Cup, an international tournament that uses football to help people with intellectual disabilities.

The USA's Houston Dynamo FC are the host side. The rest of the teams that will play in the tournament are Inter Miami and Special Olympics Texas, the Mexican Federation's team, Club Tigres and Querétaro FC from Mexico, Sporting Clube de Portugal and Benfica SL from Portugal and, in addition to the Lions and Lionesses of Athletic Genuine, there will be three other representatives from LaLiga: Fundació Barça, Valencia CF and Nàstic de Tarragona.

The group stage will be played over August 1 and 2, while the final phase will be held on 3 August at the Shell Energy Stadium, Houston Dynamo FC's home ground.The tournament will be complemented by "Genuine Connect", a networking day where different institutions will give their vision of this sector and the main challenges to be faced in the future.

Athletic Club Foundation Genuine held a final training at Lezama on Tuesday before flying to Houston. During their trip they will be staying at Rice University's halls of residence and, in addition to participating in the first edition of the Genuine World Cup, they will visit the city with different cultural and leisure activities programmed by the organisers.

The Athletic Genuine players are bursting with excitement ahead of this grand adventure and, as always, whatever the result, the team will come out winners.
