Sandor Martín to take ceremonial kick-off before Atlético Madrid match

The Barcelona native, World No. 1 and three-time European Super Lightweight Champion between 2019 and 2021, is set to be honoured this Saturday at San Mames

Sandor Martín, a boxer from Barcelona and fervent Athletic Club supporter, will take the ceremonial kick-off before Athletic Club vs Atlético de Madrid on Saturday. The super lightweight won the European Boxing Union (EBU) title in 2019 and 2021, and will fight for a world title in the US in November.

Martín is a top-level fighter with 42 victories in his 45 fights. After winning Spanish, European Union and European super lightweight titles, last year the WBC named him as the official contender for their world super lightweight title. In November, he will face Dominican boxer Alberto Puello, who is undefeated in 23 fights.

Before that, Athletic Club would like to pay tribute to a great Athletic supporter.  Despite being Catalan, Sandor Martín's affection for the Zurigorri goes back a long way. Sandor owes his love of Athletic to his two grandfathers and his father, who were the architects behind the Catalan boxer's understanding of Athletic's unique nature.
