Martón: "If things go well for Athletic, they'll go well for me too"
The Zurigorri striker spoke to the media before our match against UD Las Palmas at the Estadio Gran Canaria on Sunday
Athletic Club striker Javier Martón insisted he is concentrating on the collective rather than his individuals goals during his first season with the Lions' senior squad.
Javier joined Athletic last summer and spent the 2024/25 season on loan at CD Mirandés, where he scored four goals in 20 appearances during an injury hit campaign.
"I'm a team player, with an eye for goal, and ready to make sacrifices," Martón said about his style of play. "My main aim is that things go well for Athletic. If all goes well for Athletic, then it will for me too."
The no.19 made his official Zurigorri debut in our Matchday 3 win over Valencia CF at San Mamés,
He said: "It's an incredible feeling to play and make my debut in the Athletic top. I'm working hard every day to keep improving and make sure I'm ready when the manager calls upon me."
The 25-year-old has not had the easiest of paths to the top-flight, but believes that journey will stand him in good stead now he's arrived.
"I've always fought hard to reach the top," he added. "It's taken me a long time but it's something I value highly. I hope to be at the level needed at Athletic.
"It's going to be a long and hard season, but at the moment I'm feeling good."
