Valverde: “You're always happier when you win”

Athletic Club head coach Ernesto Valverde is hoping the Lions can go on a roll and repeat the attitude they displayed in Sunday's 2-3 win over UD Las Palmas.

The gaffer is expecting a tough test against the newly promoted side CD Leganés, who have five points from their first five fixtures of the season.

"You're always happier when you win," Valverde said ahead of the match. "It's a different match to the other day because of the characteristics of their players.

"But we have to approach it in the same way. Leganes are a recently-promoted side looking to find their feet in the division. They've made a good start to the season and their intention is to be organised and grow from there.

"We must adapt to the battle on the pitch. There's not been a lot between any of the sides in the few matches we've played."

Valverde admitted he might have to make changes to the starting XI in order to manage his players workload with the busy fixture schedule.

He said: "We should have a specific plan for tomorrow's game and a general one for the games to come. You make changes depending on how you see the team and how you think the opposition perceives you. When there are so many games in a row, you have to use the whole squad."
