The gaffer was impressed with the Lions' performance in their 4-1 win over RCD Espanyol at San Mames

Athletic Club head coach Ernesto Valverde was "very happy" with the nature of Los Leones' 4-1 LaLiga win against RCD Espanyol at San Mames on Saturday afternoon.

Dani Vivian got the ball rolling while an Iñaki Williams brace plus an Alex Berenguer strike sealed the win in the second half.

"We're very happy," the boss said in his post-match press conference. "You always want to get the game on track early and that everything goes well. And that's how it went.

"We were clinical and we started very strongly. We really well, with power and determination."

Txingurri praised the "constant fight" shown by his charges as the blew away a strong Espanyol side.

He added: "Knowing everything Espanyol have to offer we planned for a tough match. The important thing is the team's determination to show up on the pitch and impose our strengths on our opponents."

Ernesto admitted Saturday's victory would ensure the team approached Thursday's European clash against Slavia Praha with "good spirits".

"It's important that we're feeling good and happy with what we're doing," he said.

"Thursday is a different story and another competition. We're looking forward to another European night at San Mames."
