Valverde: "If we keep playing like this, we'll win a lot of matches"

Athletic Club head coach Ernesto Valverde praised the Lions' performance after a night in which they were desperately unlucky not to beat Real Betis at San Mames.

The 1-1 draw leaves Athletic sixth in the LaLiga standings, while they remain unbeaten in their last three top-flight fixtures.

"They are a good team and we made Betis look bad," Valverde said.

"We dominated and we played a great game, but we have to keep going. If we play all the remaining matches of the championship like this, we will win a lot of them."

The Zurigorri had countless chances, even hitting the post three times in the first half, as they tore the Andalusians to shreds in Bilbao.

Valverde said: "That's the way it is. In football, sometimes you score a goal from nothing and sometimes you have clear-cut chances and it's hard to convert them. The game was open and we were unable to win."
