The gaffer singled out Osasuna's defensive organisation in his post-match analysis after Sunday's draw at The Cathedral
Ernesto Valverde accepted the point picked up against CA Osasuna on Sunday evening was a fair outcome, even though it wasn't the desired result.
Athletic had opportunities to score, but lacked cutting edge in a 0-0 draw which sees the Lions hold on to fourth place in LaLiga.
"We wanted all three points, but we'll take this point and move on," Valverde said post-match.
"You have to take advantage. There's not a lot of difference between all the teams. We're lucky to be in the position we're in. We have to keep going and on Sunday we'll be playing Villarreal.
The gaffer admitted that Athletic struggled to find their rhythm against a well organised Osasuna side.
He said: "It was tough for us because Osasuna defended well. It wasn't a very fluid game. There were a lot of fouls. We lacked fluidity because of their good work. Derbies are competitive like that."
