Yuri Berchiche signs one-year extension

Yuri Berchiche's performances and number of appearances so far this campaign have earned him right to extend his stay at Athletic Club for a futher year, until 30 June 2026.

The full-back has met the objectives set out in his previous contract renewal and will now complete a decade at the club, with two of those years spent in the academy and the other eight with the first team, where he has made 231 appearances to date.

Director of Mikel Gonzalez singled out the leadership, consistency and experience which Yuri brings to the team.

He said: "Yuri has sustained a high level of performance this season, both in terms of quality and quantity. He's a consistent player. He gives us energy, experience and provides an attacking outlet on the left flank."

With 11 official games remaining for sure, 14 should Athletic Club reach the Europa League final, the defender has racked up 36 appearances this season, just four shy of his best tally as a Lion in 2019/20, his second campaign after returning to Bilbao.

So far this term, Yuri has scored one goal, the second in our 3-1 win against AS Roma with a header, and provided three assists.
