Eneko Bóveda, new Lezama academy director

Linked to Athletic for 17 years in different stages at the Club, the Durango native is promoted from the Department of Development and Loans, where he has worked as a scout and coordinating the reserve team

Eneko Bóveda, after half a life dedicated to Athletic Club between youth footballer, professional and his three years with an important weight in the sports management, is the new director of Lezama. The native of Durango has signed for one season in his new role, with responsibility for the management of the men's and women's youth teams.

Bóveda (36 years old), who studied Engineering in Bilbao and has a degree in Football as a Senior Sports Technician, has played a key role in the recruitment of professional and Under-23 football since August 2022, as well as being in charge of coordinating Bilbao Athletic for the last two years.

A man with a Lezama stamp who started his adventure in the youth ranks after joining from Maiztegi Herri Eskola (Iurreta), Bóveda worked his way up through the ranks until making his debut as a Lion in the 2008/09 season under Joaquín Caparrós. His departure to SD Eibar in the 2011/12 campaign, where the defender performed at a high level for four seasons, earned him a return to Athletic Club.

It was then, with Ernesto Valverde at the helm, that he won his only title, the 2015 Super Cup against FC Barcelona, playing in both matches. He ended his time as a Lion with 71 appearances before joining RC Deportivo, where he spent three and a half seasons. He ended his time as a player with Cypriot club Olympiakos Nicosia FC and, as soon as he hung up his boots, he returned to Lezama to embark on the adventure that he is now continuing in a position of greater responsibility.

Bóveda, who replaces Sergio Navarro in the position, will later offer the outlines of his youth project, with a working group that is starting up today.
