The president, Jon Uriarte, believes that “we have achieved a winning inertia at the Club”, and together with Mikel González has highlighted the ambition and humility with which the Club faces the demanding challenges of the future
Athletic Club president, Jon Uriarte, and the general director of football, Mikel González, have offered the annual balance of the 2024/25 season for the first two teams, a season of maximums in sporting terms and one that has reinforced the foundations of the Club's sporting project. The objectives set last summer - European qualification for the men's first team and an improvement on the fifth position in the league for the women's team - have been exceeded with flying colours.
"Nobody is surprised, because we are talking about the best Athletic of the century.
"In two years we have been able to win the Cup, qualify for the Champions League and reach the semi-finals of the Europa League," said the president during his appearance, in which he also stressed the importance of "continuing to manage success with humility, without ever losing sight of who we are."
"I believe that we have managed to implement a winning inertia at the Club and the hunger to grow never disappears, always with our feet on the ground."
Jon Uriarte also wanted to make a special mention of all the players who make the Club's day to day life possible.
"Fans, members, employees, Board of Directors, and of course, players and coaching staff. Eskerrik asko bihotzez."
And he concluded with a message of responsible ambition.
"We are driven by enthusiasm, but we are also demanding. Work, ambition and talent retention are fundamental."
For his part, Mikel González reinforced these messages with a brief introduction before giving way to the technical analysis of the most relevant data of the season.
"We are talking about a historic season for both the men's and women's teams.
"We had set very ambitious goals for both teams and not only have we achieved them, but we have surpassed them."
"It has been a very beautiful season and it will be one to remember," said the general director of football, who also pointed out that it is something that cannot be explained without hard work, without a team, without a project and without the unconditional support of the fans.
He also highlighted the capacity of the men's first team to compete regularly over 55 matches, as well as the projection of the women's team, with a very low average age and players who are increasingly present in international call-ups.
