Record attendance for a league opener at San Mames

Athletic Club kicked off the 2025/26 LaLiga season with a resounding victory and the highest attendance ever registered for a league opener at San Mames as 49,134 spectators watched our 3-2 win over Sevilla FC. 

The previous largest attendance for LaLiga opener at La Catedral came in the 2023/24 season, when 48,927 fans watch Athletic take on Real Madrid.

Before that, 47,693 people saw us start LaLiga 2019/20 at San Mames against FC Barcelona.

Athletic Club has always based much of its success on the support it receives, and Sunday's match was a good example of this.

The union between fans and players was key in a match that was complicated at times but ended with a victory.

This new milestone also confirms an upward trend in attendance at San Mames, with both the last two seasons seeing record total crowds.
