Record attendance for a league opener at San Mames

Athletic Club kicked off the 2025/26 LaLiga season with a resounding victory and the highest attendance ever recorded for a league debut at San Mames: 49,134 spectators witnessed the 3-2 win over Sevilla FC. 

To date, the best LaLiga debut at La Catedral had been in the 2023/24 season, against Real Madrid, with 48,927 attendees. Behind that was the 2019/20 league opener against FC Barcelona, with 47,693 people.

Athletic Club has always based much of its success on the support it receives from its fans, and yesterday's match was a good example of this. The communion between the stands and the players was key in a match that was complicated at times but ended with a victory celebrated on a great night of Aste Nagusia in Bilbao.

This new milestone also confirms an upward trend in attendance at San Mames, with record attendance for the entire season in the last two years.
