Valverde: "Every point is worth its weight in gold, even the one we lost today"

Ernesto Valverde did not hide his frustration after Athletic Club's 0-1 defeat to Getafe CF at San Mames.

In a game of few chances, Borja Mayoral struck in the 74th minute to win all three points for the visitors.

He said: "We have to pull ourselves together and realise that in LaLiga every point is worth its weight in gold, even the one we lost today.

"The Champions League takes its toll on you. We have look at ourselves and see that we're not playing well."

The head coach admitted that the opposition were superior and that his team failed to impose their game.

"They were better than us. We couldn't break through their press. We tried to, but we couldn't do it." he added.

Valverde also acknowledged that home matches are proving more difficult than expected.

"For me, today's match was very important when it comes to points. Winning meant a lot, and losing means we can't move forward. In LaLiga, there's not a lot of difference between teams in terms of quality."
