The Athletic Club Foundation brings “Corridor Football” back to the pediatric ward at Cruces Hospital
As part of the Community Pediatrics project, Mikel Jauregizar, Oihan Sancet, Nico Serrano, Irene Oguiza and Adriana Nanclares played a friendly match with children hospitalised at Cruces with the aim of making their convalescence more bearable
For another year, the Athletic Club Foundation, in collaboration with Osakidetza (the Basque Country's national health service), organised a new edition of “Corridor Football” this past Wednesday at Cruces Hospital.
This community initiative aims to ease the convalescence of children hospitalised in the pediatrics ward at Cruces Hospital.
Cruces Hospital Pediatrics Ward as the Athletic Club Foundation’s pitch
The idea, which was first implemented in 2019, is very simple: set up an improvised pitch with small goals in a common area of the hospital (in this edition, in the former children’s rehabilitation gym) and have players from Athletic Club’s first teams play a game with hospitalised children.
The line-up for this edition: Mikel Jauregizar, Oihan Sancet, Nico Serrano, Irene Oguiza, and Adriana Nanclares
A space that is usually a source of concern and anxiety as a result of illness is temporarily transformed into an enjoyable football pitch.
The people behind the magical transformation this time were Mikel Jauregizar, Oihan Sancet, Nico Serrano, Irene Oguiza and Adriana Nanclares. Tricks, goals and saves made with a soft ball, all of which help to heal.
After the game, the Lions and Lionesses visited the school children’s and pediatric oncology wards.
Along with the players, Johana Ruiz-Olabuenaga, director of Athletic Club’s communities department, and Galder Reguera, Fundazioa's director of strategy, also participated in the game.
