Valverde: “We have to bounce back quickly”

Ernesto Valverde acknowledged that Real Madrid "were better" on the night while stressing that his side need to recover quickly ahead of Saturday's match against Atlético Madrid.

An inspired Kylian Mbappé performance which included two goals and an assist proved to much as Athletic fell to a 0-3 loss against the Madrid side in Bilbao.

"Real Madrid were better than us and beat us. We have to acknowledge our opponents' performance," Valverde said after the match.

"It's a tough result, but we have to bounce back quickly, nothing we haven't done before. We have another important match on Saturday and, given today's defeat, it is even more important now."

Despite the heavy defeat, the boss saw many positives from his players' and is hopeful about Saturday's match against Atletico Madrid at San Mames.

He said: "We don't want these matches to hurt us. We try to come out stronger in terms of results and our overall game. Today we have to take a look at both these factors."
