The gaffer and left-back said Athletic's intentions for Wednesday match against PSG are clear

Ernesto Valverde and Yuri Berchiche confirmed that Athletic will show no fear and look to go toe-to-toe with the European champions at San Mames on Wednesday night.

Getting a positive result is vital for Athletic Club's Champions League ambitions, but the opponents don't come much more difficult than Paris Saint-Germain.

“This is San Mamés and we're Athletic, anything is possible," Valverde said during his pre-match press conference.

"It's a decisive match because there are few points left to play for and we need to put some more on the board, preferably three.

"We're facing the champions, one of the favourites to win the trophy again. It will be a tough match, but a good one for our fans, and we hope to rise to the occasion."

The Lions are taking on a team with considerable resources and one of the best squads on the continent.

"We must bear their strength in mind. There are many important matches during the season, but tomorrow's game is crucial in terms of the standings. If we win, we take a big step forward. If we lose, we take a step backwards."

Looking for a repeat of Saturday's performance

Athletic come to this match after a tremendous performance which saw them win all three points against Atlético Madrid on Saturday.

Yuri is hopeful that Athletic can produce a similar display during Wednesday's European clash.

He said: “We know it will be very difficult, but I think that if we play like we did on Saturday, we'll have a chance. Hopefully, the fans and players will be just like they were the other day.

"It was another great day at San Mames. When the fans are with us, it's like having an extra player. We can feel it, they're very important to us."
