Athletic Club sign Efe Korkut

Athletic Club have signed 19-year-old midfielder Efe Korkut from German club VfB Stuttgart, where he was playing for the second team.

The Donostia-born midfielder, who will go straight into the Bilbao Athletic squad, has signed a contract through to 30 June 2028, with an option to extend for two seasons.

Efe is a skillful and versatile central midfielder with attacking instincts, who can also play as an inverted winger.

Korkut has spent all his youth career in Germany and VFB Stuttgart signed him from FC Nürnberg in 2022. He made a big impact in 2024/25, scoring eight goals in 32 appearances, including two in the UEFA Youth League.

This season he has played 16 matches with Stuttgart II and featured for the first team in pre-season friendlies.

Efe Korkut has represented Turkiye at youth level, where he has faced some of his new teammates, such as Peio Huestamendia and Igor Oyono.

He acquired Turkish nationality through his father, Tayfun. Tayfun was a Real Sociedad player for three seasons, where he met his mother, who is also from Donostia.
