Iñaki Williams moves level with Piru Gainza in appearance rankings

Iñaki Wiliams is now joint eighth on Athletic Club's all-time appearance-maker ranking after featuring in Friday's LaLiga clash with Elche CF at San Mames.

The Zurigorri captain is now level with Athletic legend Piru Gainza on 496 appearances. The fixture against Elche was the older Williams brother's 394th LaLiga match.

Added to his league appearances, Iñaki has played 51 matches in the Copa del Rey, six in the Spanish Super Cup and 45 in European competitions (42 in the Europa League and 3 in the Champions League). 

Williams became captain of Los Leones this season and has been in the first team for 12 years now. 

During his time in the top flight, the no.9 has almost always been available to play. He holds the LaLiga record for most consecutive appearances, playing in 251 fixtures between April 2016 and January 2023.

With nearly 500 appearances and over 100 goals under his belt already, Iñaki's status as an Athletic Club legend looks set to keep growing.
