Young central midfielder Unai Vencedor came to Athletic Club via the Santutxu FC youth system. Unai, who grew up in Bilbao, made his proper breakthrough in 2020-21, making a total of 36 first-team appearances.

However, Vencedor made his LaLiga debut against Osasuna in 2019-20 when an injury crisis meant Athletic were short of centre-midfielders. And he was very close to making the perfect start, hitting the woodwork with a free-kick.

Unai has gone on to become an important part of the squad. As shown by the fact he started both matches as Athletic beat Real Madrid and FC Barcelona to win the 2020-21 Super Cup. Set to turn 22 years old this season, Vencedor already has 71 Athletic appearances to his name.

A serious and hard-working professional, Unai is very comfortable in possession, likes to dictate tempo from the middle and is constantly looking for through-ball opportunities.

He recently signed a new deal keeping him at Athletic until 2027 at least. Never one to shirk a challenge, Vencedor will look to take another step forward this season and cement his place in the Lions' midfield for many years to come.
